Laporan PC Mag (via Kompas Tekno) mengungkap bahwa tugas utama George Hotz adalah menyelesaikan masalah di kolom “pencarian” di Twitter. Elon Musk memberinya waktu sekitar 12 minggu untuk meningkatkan sistem pencarian Twitter.
Diakui Hotz, tugas tersebut merupakan tanggung jawab yang cukup berat mengingat waktu yang diberikan relatif singkat.
“Itulah yang dikatakan Elon Musk tentang pekerjaan, dan saya hanya berusaha sekuat tenaga untuk melakukannya. Saya punya waktu 12 minggu,” katanya.

George Hotz yang mengaku menyukai tantangan melakukan pekerjaannya dengan intens. Pada 22 November lalu, Hotz menanyakan pendapat pengguna Twitter terkait kualitas pencarian di Twitter.
“Bagaimana pendapat Anda tentang kualitas pencarian di Twitter? Mengapa Anda menggunakan pencarian di Twitter, bukan Google?” dia berkata.
CEO dan pendiri Boom Institute of Technology, Austen Alfred, menjawab pertanyaan ini.
Alfred menyebut kolom pencarian Twitter “sangat mengganggu” karena kesalahan atau salah ketik satu huruf saja membuat Twitter tidak bisa menemukan kata kunci yang dimasukkan.
Artinya, pengguna harus memasukkan kata kunci yang tepat agar mesin pencari Twitter dapat menemukan topik yang dimaksud. Menyikapi hal tersebut, Hotz kemudian mencoba mencari cara sederhana agar kolom pencarian Twitter bisa lebih baik lagi.
