FBI peringati pengguna Apple dan Android – Biro Penyelidikan Federal (FBI) Amerika Serikat (AS) baru-baru ini mengeluarkan peringatan keras kepada pengguna Apple dan Android. Bersama badan pertahanan siber AS, CISA (Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency), FBI menyoroti pentingnya penggunaan pesan dan panggilan telepon terenkripsi untuk melindungi privasi pengguna dari ancaman peretasan.
Ancaman Peretasan Jaringan oleh Kelompok Siber China
Dalam pernyataan resmi yang dirilis Jumat (6/12/2024), FBI menyebutkan bahwa terdapat laporan peretasan jaringan berskala besar di AS yang diduga dilakukan oleh kelompok siber Salt Typhoon. Kelompok ini diketahui memiliki afiliasi dengan Kementerian Keamanan Publik China. Menurut FBI, aksi ini berpotensi lebih luas daripada yang diperkirakan sebelumnya.
“Komunikasi yang sepenuhnya terenkripsi adalah pertahanan terbaik terhadap kompromi ini. Warga Amerika didesak untuk menggunakannya sesegera mungkin,” demikian disampaikan dalam pernyataan tersebut.
Pentingnya Penggunaan Komunikasi Terenkripsi
Pesan dan panggilan terenkripsi, seperti yang ditawarkan oleh aplikasi komunikasi modern, dianggap sebagai solusi terbaik untuk melindungi privasi dan data pengguna. Teknologi ini bekerja dengan mengenkripsi pesan dari pengirim hingga penerima sehingga tidak ada pihak ketiga, termasuk pengembang aplikasi, yang dapat mengakses konten tersebut.
Jeff Greene, pejabat senior di CISA, juga menyatakan bahwa langkah ini sangat penting untuk melindungi kepentingan nasional AS. “Kami sangat mendesak warga Amerika untuk menggunakan komunikasi terenkripsi jika ada. Kita benar-benar perlu melakukan itu untuk mengamankan jaringan kita dalam jangka panjang,” ujar Greene.
Siapa Salt Typhoon?
Salt Typhoon adalah kelompok siber yang diyakini menjadi dalang di balik serangan ini. Kelompok ini menargetkan infrastruktur telekomunikasi komersial AS dengan meluncurkan kampanye spionase siber berskala besar. Menurut FBI, kelompok ini memanfaatkan celah keamanan dalam jaringan telekomunikasi untuk mencuri metadata panggilan dan pesan teks.
Meskipun konten panggilan dan pesan tidak sepenuhnya dicuri, pelaku berhasil membahayakan komunikasi pribadi sejumlah kecil individu yang berhubungan dengan kegiatan pemerintahan atau politik. Hal ini meningkatkan kekhawatiran akan potensi penyalahgunaan data oleh pihak yang tidak bertanggung jawab.
Langkah-Langkah yang Disarankan
Agar tetap aman dari ancaman ini, FBI dan CISA merekomendasikan langkah-langkah berikut bagi pengguna Apple dan Android:
- Gunakan Application dengan Enkripsi Ujung ke Ujung: Pilih aplikasi komunikasi seperti iMessage, WhatsApp, atau Signal yang menyediakan enkripsi penuh.
- Perbarui Perangkat Secara Rutin: Pastikan sistem operasi perangkat Anda selalu diperbarui untuk menutup celah keamanan.
- Hindari Mengklik Tautan Asing: Jangan sembarangan mengklik tautan yang tidak dikenal karena dapat menjadi pintu masuk malware.
- Gunakan Jaringan Aman: Hindari menggunakan Wi-Fi publik tanpa proteksi, dan gunakan VPN jika memungkinkan.
