House urges Apple & Google to block TikTok in the U.S. Threats begin in 2025!
On Friday (13/12/2024), Republican and Democratic members of the US House of Representatives sent an official letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai. The letter asserts that starting January 2025, TikTok will be banned from operating in the United States if ByteDance, its China-based parent company, fails to divest. - Block TikTok in the US The letter was signed by John Moolenaar (R-Mich.) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.), members of the US House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. They remind Apple and Google of their legal responsibilities as operators of apps within their operating systems. Court Decision: ByteDance Must Divest TikTok The US Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C., ruled that ByteDance must complete the process of divesting its TikTok shares by January 19, 2025.
